Shell is a major energy producer and supplier, accounting for 11 percent of the UK's total oil and gas production. It has operations in over 70 countries, producing 3.7 million barrels of oil equivalent every day. As consumer sentiment shifts on environmental issues, Shell and many of its rivals with a long heritage in the oil business are accelerating their shift towards renewable sources of energy. To UK customers, Shell is best known for its network of filling stations but, since acquiring First Utility in 2018, it has been advertising the fact it supplies energy to homes from 100 percent renewable sources. Shell’s focus on renewables is also at the heart of the latest element of its “Make the Future” campaign. In a five-part YouTube series, Shell challenges two teams of young people to travel across the US emitting as little carbon as possible. Shell has partnered with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver to launch an exclusive range of deli items in 500 of its service stations. The selection is designed to contain 69 percent more fruit and vegetables than Shell’s previous range.
