William Hill is the largest of the “big three” land-based UK bookmakers, running 2,375 licensed betting shops in the UK as well as online gambling services. Revenues have been climbing following increases in the amount of money being wagered. The brand has a strong association with sports betting, has partnerships with three English Premier League football clubs - Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham – and has been title sponsor of the William Hill Scottish Cup since 2011. William Hill’s advertising has been a source of trouble for the brand in the past year; the business had a commercial banned by the Advertising Standards Authority in early 2018 over what it ruled was a misleading bonus promotion. It was also fined £6.2 million by industry regulator the Gambling Commission for breaching anti-money-laundering and social responsibility regulations. William Hill operates in eight countries, including the US, Spain, Italy, and the Philippines and roughly a fifth of group net revenue comes from outside the UK.
