Aqua is the biggest-selling bottled water brand in Indonesia, and has become a generic term to represent the entire category. It is priced at the higher end of the market but appeals to consumers across income levels. Communications focus on the importance to good health of drinking water regularly, the quality of Aqua water, and the brand’s CSR efforts, which tend to promote good health and care for the environment. In early 2019, Aqua launched the first water bottle in Indonesia made of 100 percent recycled plastic. The launch, on the tourist island of Bali, is a key milestone in the brand’s journey toward achieving zero waste by 2025. To mark World Water Day in March, Aqua held a Water Cycle Tour of its factory in West Java and used the occasion to raise the profile of water conservation programs nearby. The brand works with communities and bloggers on environmental issues; it hopes to inspire others to help improve the environment and reduce by 70 percent the amount of plastic waste in the sea by 2025.
