KIRIN

KIRIN

Parent Company: Kirin Holdings Company Limited

Brand value: $2,752 million

Headquarter city: Tokyo

Industry: Alcohol

Year formed: 1907

Kirin traces its heritage to Spring Valley Brewery, the first company in Japan to brew and sell beer to the public. It is therefore recognized as a pioneer of the Japanese beer industry. Kirin was incorporated under its current name in 1907, and today the Kirin brand encompasses a range of beers, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages (and, with Kirin holdings, also a pharmaceutical wing). The brand’s name and logo refers to a mystical creature in folklore, depictions of which are immediately recognizable on top sellers like Kirin Lager, Kirin Ichiban Shibori, and Kirin Tanrei. The company’s brand communications emphasize natural purity, craft, and special brewing methods (for instance, the “first-press” method used to make Kirin Ichiban Shibori) that lend many of Kirin’s offerings their rich taste and unique bitterness. The brand recently introduced its innovative Tap Marché dispenser and no-hops “Hon Kirin” label, and going forward hopes to further diversify its portfolio with new craft and low-alcohol beverage offerings. Kirin Holdings Company, Ltd is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
