Founded in Stellarton, Nova Scotia as a meat delivery business, by 1924, Sobey’s product range had expanded to a full line of groceries. In 1947, Frank Sobey opened the first Sobeys supermarket in Atlantic Canada. Sobeys continued to expand throughout the Atlantic provinces in the 1950s and 60s, and in 1987 opened its first store in Ontario. Today, Sobey’s is largely known as a modestly upscale supermarket chain, with a full range of grocery and household products. The brand also operates Sobey’s Express, a companion to gas stations that differentiates itself from other convenience stores by offering a number of fresh produce and bakery items.
