William Hill is the largest of the “big three” land-based UK bookmakers. As one of the older players in a sector that is increasingly going digital, it has a large network of betting shops – over 2,300 around the UK. It also operates online, where it serves around 2.4 million customers a year. The business operates in several international markets, including Australia, the US and Italy, but the vast majority of revenue comes from its UK operations. William Hill has expanded into Sweden this year. In the UK, the William Hill brand has a strong association with sports betting, and has partnerships with three English Premier League football clubs - Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham. In 2018 it signed boxer Anthony Joshua as a new global brand ambassador; he joins jockey Sir Anthony McCoy, TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher and football pundit Robbie Savage. William Hill this year had an advertisement banned after a complaint that it linked gambling to sexual success. The ad, on dating app Tinder, was withdrawn, though William Hill said its intention was to be relevant, not to promise sexual success.
